By car – From the M5 leave the motorway at junction 25 and take the A358 towards Ilminster. At the Horton Cross roundabout on the edge of Ilminster, proceed straight across towards the town. Stay on this road through the town and as you leave, take a right fork signposted to Kingstone and Dowlish Wake. Proceed for just over a mile before taking a right turn on a sharp left hand bend. Turn immediately left and head down into the village. Pass the church on your right and then the packhorse bridge followed by Perry’s Cider Mills, also on your right. Brook House is the second house on the right after the right turn to the Cider Mill.
From the A303, proceed towards Honiton and Exeter. At the South Petherton roundabout, take the second exit towards Lopen and Ilminster town centre. Proceed to the next roundabout at Lopen Head and continue towards Ilminster. Continue through the village of Seavington St Michael and after approximately 1 mile, take the left turn to Kingstone and Dowlish Wake. At the next T junction, turn right and right again at the next T junction. You will see Kingstone church on your right and shortly after take the left turn on a sharp right hand bend.
Follow the instructions above to bring you to Brook House in the centre of Dowlish Wake village.
Come over the bridge and park on the ample drive – we have plenty of off road parking.
By train – the nearest railway station is Crewkerne, approximately 6 miles away. Given sufficient prior notice your hosts will be happy to arrange pick ups and drop offs as required.
By cycle – Dowlish Wake is on the route of the long distance South Somerset cycle path (route number 30). Follow the instructions above for directions from Ilminster. We can ensure your cycles are kept secure overnight.
Dowlish Wake is a small, pretty village nestled in the South Somerset countryside , two miles south of the attractive town of Ilminster. The village is situated on the Dowlish Brook, crossed by a 17th Century packhorse bridge – a favourite with visitors for photo opportunities!
Your hosts would be delighted to give you information on walks from Brook House for you to enjoy the beautiful South Somerset countryside and views of the Windwhistle Ridge. Beyond the village, the dramatic Jurassic Coastline is within 30 minutes of Brook House and proximity to the A303, A30 and M5 road network means Cheddar Gorge and the Mendips, Dartmoor, Exmoor and the Quantocks are within reach of a day trip. Brook House also makes an excellent location as a stopover for those travelling further west and into Cornwall.
